Advancing Vision Through Regenerative Science: Dr. Daryl Joel Dumdum Speaks on Stem Cells and Eye Disorders at IPAO 2026

Innovation in eye care and regenerative medicine took center stage as Dr. Daryl Joel Dumdum delivered a lecture on Stem Cells and Eye Disorders during the scientific gathering of the Integrated Philippine Association of Optometrists (IPAO) held last May 22, 2026, at Novotel Manila Araneta City.

The event gathered optometrists, eye care professionals, healthcare practitioners, and medical innovators from across the country to explore emerging technologies and future directions in vision care. Among the highlights of the convention was Dr. Dumdum’s presentation, which focused on the evolving role of regenerative medicine in ophthalmology and neurovisual disorders.

Exploring the Future of Eye Care

In his lecture, Dr. Dumdum discussed the scientific foundations and potential applications of stem cell therapy, extracellular vesicles, and regenerative medicine in addressing degenerative and chronic eye conditions.

The presentation covered current developments involving:

  • Retinal degeneration
  • Optic nerve injury
  • Dry eye disease
  • Corneal disorders
  • Neuro-ophthalmic conditions
  • Age-related visual decline
  • Cellular repair and neuroregeneration

Dr. Dumdum emphasized that regenerative medicine is rapidly transforming how clinicians view chronic degenerative diseases — shifting the conversation from symptom management toward tissue repair, neuroprotection, and functional restoration.

He also highlighted the importance of evidence-based practice, ethical standards, patient safety, and interdisciplinary collaboration between physicians and eye care professionals as the field continues to evolve.

Bridging Regenerative Medicine and Clinical Practice

Known for his passion for stem cell science and innovation, Dr. Daryl Joel Dumdum shared both global trends and local perspectives on regenerative medicine in the Philippines.

A Fellow in Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine conferred by the International Association of Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine earlier this March 2026, Dr. Dumdum continues to advocate for responsible advancement in cellular therapies and translational medicine.

Through his work at Sure Health 360 Center for Regenerative Medicine & Cell Therapy, he has been actively involved in integrating regenerative medicine, advanced diagnostics, longevity science, and wellness-based approaches into clinical practice in Davao City.

His lecture at IPAO reflects his ongoing mission to bring regenerative science into multidisciplinary medical conversations and to encourage collaboration among healthcare professionals in shaping the future of medicine.

A Growing Interest in Regenerative Ophthalmology

The session generated strong interest among attendees, particularly as regenerative ophthalmology continues to gain attention internationally. Advances in stem cell research, extracellular vesicles, neuroregeneration, and tissue engineering are opening new possibilities for conditions once considered irreversible.

While many therapies remain investigational and continue to require robust clinical evidence, the field is rapidly progressing, creating new opportunities for research, innovation, and future patient care.

Dr. Dumdum underscored the importance of balancing scientific optimism with ethical responsibility:

“Regenerative medicine should always be guided by science, patient safety, and evidence. Our role is not only to innovate, but to innovate responsibly.”

Continuing the Mission

The IPAO engagement marks another milestone in Dr. Dumdum’s continuing advocacy for regenerative medicine education in the Philippines.

As co-founder of the Philippine Society for Regenerative Medicine (PSRM), he continues to help build a national movement dedicated to advancing regenerative medicine through education, research, ethical practice, and physician training.

With the rapid evolution of stem cell science and regenerative technologies, collaborations between medical specialties are becoming increasingly important — and events such as IPAO 2026 demonstrate how the future of healthcare will be shaped not by one discipline alone, but by shared innovation across the entire medical community.
